A Sense of Place
Pre-lesson activities encourage children to record words associated with the built environment. This is achieved through three field trips. Once words are gathered and recorded, they are used to develop phonological awareness. Phonological awareness helps the child's language and literacy development. For children for whom English is an additional language, it is important to that they are assisted in distinguishing between the different sounds of English and in pronouncing any sounds that cause difficulty.
