Data: Ordering Soccer Jerseys
This activity, produced by the children in St Mary's BNS, Lucan, Co. Dublin and their teacher, Cliona O'Keeffe, has been designed to allow teachers to introduce statistics as a problem-solving process. Throughout the activity, children can build their skills through investigations of different ways to organise and represent data and describe and analyse variation in this data. Children are presented with a problem set in the context of a sports shop owner who wants to stock his shop with soccer jerseys. He needs to find out the most popular sizes and teams. Through such practical examples they can come to understand the concepts of typicality and spread.
